From Pastor Andy // COVID-19

UPDATED ON TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 2020 at 7:30pm

To our CV FAMILY:

I wanted to ensure our CV FAMILY that we are doing everything we can to prevent spread of this and other viruses on the CV CAMPUS and have been since around October of 2019, when the flu season was hitting high gear. We will not stop praying over our CV FAMILY throughout this and other sickness being spread around our communities, state and nation.

There was a conference call at 1:30pm today, Tuesday, March 17 with the Alabama Church of God State Council, after which we communicated with our CV Leadership and then our Pastoral Staff / Department Leaders.

A News Conference given by the State of Alabama Health Officer Scott Harris, as of 5:00pm on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 gatherings of 25 people or more is prohibited in Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Blount, St. Clair and Shelby Counties. Due to this ruling and it being “prohibited” for our county, also in communicating with the legal department of the Church of God, as well  as advice from the State Council of the Church of God and speaking with many pastors in the Pell City area, we have unfortunately come to the decision of canceling all IN-SERVICE Church Services through March 29th. This has been a very heavy decision to make, however, we believe it is in the best interest of our church family. Please also know, we don’t take this decision lightly. So, what does this mean for CV?

We are going to have a Live Feed Service {http://cvcog.church/live} on the following dates, as of now:
  • Wednesday, March 18th at 7:00pm ~ Worship, Information and Devotional
  • Thursday, March 19th at 7:00pm ~ Bro. Micheal and Sis. Elizabeth will have devotional
  • Sunday, March 22nd at 9:45am ~ Sunday School Lesson

  • Sunday, March 29th at 9:45am ~ Sunday School Lesson
  • Sunday, March 29th at 11:00am ~ Morning Worship
  • Sunday, March 29th at 5:00pm ~ Devotional
  • Tuesday, March 31st at 7:00pm ~ Bro. Micheal and Sis. Elizabeth will have devotional

This is not a compete list, however, as you can see we will have several times of connecting with our CV FAMILY through Live Feed {http://cvcog.church/live}.

One major question that also comes to mind is giving. The church will continue to be the church and do ministry. You can go online at {http://cvcog.church/give} for the many different ways to give to the ministries at CV. We will be very proactive in our expenses, such as utilities, however we want to continue to support our missions and ministries in our church.

What are some other things we can do: STAY CONNECTED! Be sure to call or text others in our CV FAMILY daily to check on one another. If you find someone in a true need, please pass along to Pastor Andy so that we can help meet that need. We have people who are available to help with small grocery pickups, pharmacy pickup and other things that are needed during this time. BUT, we can’t help if we don’t know.

We will also have a few times throughout this that we we will clean areas of the church buildings; those times and dates will be posted so that anyone who wants to help can do so. We will not try to to everything at one time, but we do want to take this time to do a deep clean.

What can we do on the Spiritual Side of this battle? Great question that we need to address. Don’t be confused, this is a battle in the Spiritual realm as well. People have fear gripping and we need to take a stand on the Word of God during this time, just as much as we do at any other time as well. Below are a few Bible Verses that I would encourage our CV FAMILY to read over yourself, your family and our CV FAMILY every morning:

  • 2 Timothy 1:7 ~ “For God hath not given us the spirit of FEAR, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
  • Psalms 91:2 ~ “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.”
  • Jeremiah 30:17 ~ “For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord”
  • Isaiah 53:5 ~ “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,”
  • Joshua 1:9 ~ “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
  • 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 ~ “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.”

God has got this!!! It didn’t catch HIM by surprise, we will make it through!!!

Again, please understand the best defense we have is FIRST prayer and SECOND information. Please don’t spread panic or incorrect information concerning COVID-19 and other illnesses.

In Christ,
