Victory Through Christ

Victory Through Christ

Revelation 3:7-13 (ESV) ~ “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens, and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens. “‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you. Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

NOTE: Over the past few months, we have talked about Spiritual Gifts, Troubles and Trials, Not Giving Up, Working Together in UNITY with God and with each other, Our Battle Cry, and What Does God Know About You.

In all this, we KNOW that a church, a church family, our individual church members wants the church to be victorious for Christ. If this is NOT your desire, may need to rethink your desire.

How do we become victorious for Christ?

  • We fulfill His Word and bring forth fruit
    • John 15:1-2 (ESV) ~ I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
  • We fulfill His Word and have JOY of victory
    • Luke 10:17 (ESV) ~ The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”
    • The church in Philadelphia was victorious because of the power of God in Christ.
    • The church in Philadelphia was promised victory in three areas of their church life.
    • We at Coosa Valley can be victorious because of the POWER of God in Christ.
    • We at Coosa Valley can have the same promised victory in three areas of our church life.

  • Victory in Ministry
    • Revelation 3:8 (ESV) ~ I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.
    • Christ ALONE has the power to open and shut doors
      • Isaiah 22:22 (ESV) ~ And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
      • Luke 9:1-2 (ESV) ~ And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
    • We should ask HIM to open doors of ministry for us. Not the doors WE want, but the doors HE wants for our lives.
  • Victory in Conquering Opposition
    • Revelation 3:9 (ESV) ~ Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you.
    • Though in the midst of pagan religions, the church in Revelation had opposition mostly from religious leaders. We don’t need religious leaders in the church today, we need people with a RELATIONSHIP to LEAD!
    • Satan was and is the REAL source of opposition.
      • Ephesians 6:12 (ESV) ~ For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
    • To have victory, we must overcome opposition.
      • Romans 12:1-2 (ESV) ~ I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
      • Romans 5:3-5 (ESV) ~ Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
      • 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (ESV) ~ We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
      • John 16:33 (ESV) ~ I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
  • Victory in Escaping Temptation
      • Revelation 3:10 (ESV) ~ Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.
      • Some say we are living in the Great Tribulation
        • Matthew 24:21 (ESV) ~ For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.
      • Old Testament prophets mention this time we are living in as well.
        • Daniel 12:1 (ESV) ~ At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.
        • Joel 2:1-2 (ESV) ~ Blow a trumpet in Zion; sound an alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming; it is near, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains a great and powerful people; their like has never been before, nor will be again after them through the years of all generations.

How does all this happen? Christ uses what we have, when we keep His Word and don’t deny the name of Jesus. Christ Jesus, who is holy and true and who has the key of David, the keys to death, hell and the grave, is well able to give VICTORY to HIS church.
