The Battle of the Mind

The Battle of the Mind

Philippians 2:5 (ESV) ~ Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,

Very simply, the passage says that Jesus Christ is God, yet He humbled Himself and became Man. Jesus Christ is the Person who dwelt in all the glory of perfection, but He humbled Himself and came to this corruptible world that knows little else other than selfishness, greed and death. Just imagine the enormous step down that Jesus Christ had to take to become a Man. It is utterly impossible to grasp the humility it took. Yet, this is exactly what He did and it is what we are to do. The very same mind that existed in Jesus Christ—that led Christ to give up everything He was and had—that very mind is to be in us. The only way the problems of the world can be solved is for every person to let the mind of Christ flood his mind. Consider the problems of . . . war, hate, anger, arguing, abuse, prejudice, indulgence, extravagance, hoarding, greed, stealing, envy, selfishness, pride, cockiness, haughtiness, arrogance, cursing, hunger, homeless, poverty, disease, jealousy, immorality. The list could go on and on.

Unless we step down and humble ourselves these problems will never be solved. The point of our passage is simply this: Jesus Christ set and focused His mind upon humbling Himself, He took all He was and had and came down where we are and met our need.

To move a man to action you have to influence his thinking. Sometimes you must change it. A little leaven changes the whole character of the bread. So, a little thought or an attitude can start changes in motion that will affect one’s entire destiny. In order to change or influence our mind, our way of thinking, let’s look at the mind of man.

    • 2 Thessalonians 2:12 (ESV) ~ in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
    • Isaiah 26:3 (ESV) ~ You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

  • The Gullible Mind

    • Careful of the music we listen to
    • Careful of what we read
    • Careful of the TV programs we watch

  • The Lazy Mind
    • Acts 17:11 (ESV) ~ Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
    • Read the Bible
    • Study the Bible (Private and group setting)
    • Listen to the Word

  • The Tolerant Mind

    • 1 Timothy 4:2 (ESV) ~ through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared,
    • Isaiah 5:20 (ESV) ~ Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
    • One who gives excuses for evil
    • One who takes no stand against evil

  • The Warped Mind
    • Child Abuse ~ Ephesians 6:4 (ESV) ~ Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

    • Parent Abuse ~ Ephesians 6:2 (ESV) ~ “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise),

  • The Secret of Victory
