How to Change Your Looks

How to Change Your Looks

  1. By looking in the mirror of God’s word – 2 Corinthians 3:18
    1. “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
    2. The glory that the Spirit imparts to the believer is more excellent and lasts longer than that which Moses experienced. By beholding the nature of God with unveiled minds, we can be more like him. In the Gospel, we see the truth about Christ and it transforms us morally as we understand and apply it. Through Christ’s life, we understand how wonderful God is and what he is really like. As our knowledge deepens, the Holy Spirit helps us to change. Becoming Christ like is a progressive experience. The more closely we follow him, the more we will be like him.
      1. As the mirror reflects the object in front of it
      2. So the mirror of God’s Word reveals our sinfulness
  • The mirror reminds us where the remedy is needed

  1. By living a Godly Christian Life – Titus 2:10 – 13
    1. “Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. [11] For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, [12] Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; [13] Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;”
    2. The power to live the Christina life comes from Jesus Christ. Because Christ died and rescued us from sin, we are free from sin’s control. He gives us the power and understanding to live according to God’s will and to do good. Then we will look forward to his wonderful return with eager expectation and hope.
      1. We are changed by His strength, His power changes for the good
      2. We are changed by His Spirit, His indwelling presence changes us
  • We are changed by singing His praise; it makes you feel better

  1. By Legal Laws of Adoption – Romans 8:15 – 16
    1. “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. [16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:”
    2. Paul uses adoption to illustrate the believer’s new relationship with God. In Roman culture, the adopted person lost all rights in his old family and gained all the rights of a legitimate child in his new family. He became a full heir to his new father’s estate. We may not always feel like we belong to God, but the Holy Spirit is our witness. His inward presence reminds us of who we are and encourages us with his love.
    3. We are no longer cringing and fearful slaves; instead we are the Master’s children. What a privilege! Because we are God’s children, we share in great treasures as join-heirs. God has already given us his best gifts: his Son, forgiveness, and eternal life; and he encourages us to ask him for whatever we need.
      1. Lifts you up in taking the Name of His family
      2. None can read the evidence of a man’s adoption but himself.
  • Legal heir to all the family’s benefits

  1. By Labor of Love and Service – Ephesians 6:10 – 11
    1. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. [11] Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
      1. Working for the Lord keeps our heart in tune with glory
      2. Walking with the Lord keeps us in step with His grace
  • Winning others to Christ keeps us full of joy and gladness

  1. By Laughter and Rejoicing – Psalm 126:4 – 6
    1. “Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south. [5] They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. [6] He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
    2. God’s capacity for restoring life is beyond our understanding. Forests burn down and are able to grow back. Broken bones heal. Even grief is not a permanent condition. Our tears can be seeds that will grown into a harvest of joy because God is able to bring good out of tragedy. When burdened by sorrow, know that your times of grief will end and that you will again find joy. We must be patient as we wait. God’s great harvest of joy is coming.
      1. The goodness of God in our heart changes us outwardly
      2. The greatness of God keeps us rejoicing in Him
  • The glory of God shines in our lives inwardly and outwardly

  1. By loving the Lord Jesus Christ – Ephesians 6:24
    1. “Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.”
      1. When we love Jesus supremely it shows in our appearance
      2. When we love Jesus supremely it shows in our actions
  • When we love Jesus supremely it shows in our affections

  1. By Listening to the preaching of the gospel – 1 Corinthians 1:18 – 21
    1. “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. [19] For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. [20] Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? [21] For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
      1. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God
      2. Forgiveness lifts the burden of sin and makes you look better
  • Fellowship with the saints brightens up your life
