I’m Still Standing

I’m Still Standing

Ephesians 6:13 (ESV) ~ “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

There is a duty of a Christian soldier and that duty is to take on the whole armor of God. Not how the believer’s need for the whole armor of God is again stressed. We must put on the armor of God because it is absolutely essential and a necessity. Why? Because of the “evil day”.

  • This refers to today
  • The onslaught of temptations and trials
  • The special onslaught of unusual temptations and trials.

Spiritual Warfare ~ assault by demons; irresistible temptation; unexplained and inescapable feelings of depression and anxiety; a sense of failure and shame; spiritual fatigue that leaves you powerless; loss of joy; attacks against your family, possessions, health; all are a part of spiritual warfare.

Here are five ways we are to STAND in the day of battle:

    • “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”
    • We are commissioned as Jesus’ witnesses.
    • “We must obey God rather than men.” ~ Acts 5:29
    • If we stand for something, we naturally are against something.
    • The Church must exist as a restraining force against evil.
    • We are the restraining force that keeps the Antichrist from rising to power (2 Thessalonians 2:3). We are called to be …
      • The salt of the earth – a convicting and preserving force in the world for Jesus Christ.
      • The light of the world – dispel darkness and bring the warmth of God’s love to the world.
    • There may be times when you have to stand for Christ alone.
    • Joseph was alone in Egypt, yet he could say, “God intended it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
    • Daniel was alone in Babylon, yet he “resolved not to defile himself.” (Daniel 1:8).
    • Jesus was alone before Pilate, but “for the joy set before him endured the cross” (Hebrews 12:2).
    • Paul was alone at his trial, but he said, “The Lord stood at my side and gave me strength” (2 Timothy 4:17).
    • You may feel alone, but you are never really alone because God is with you!
    • We need others to support us when we are in a spiritual battle. We can’t do it alone.
    • In Ephesians, believers are called:
      • The body of Christ (1:23)
      • A holy temple (2:21-22)
      • The bride of Christ (5:25)
    • Paul stresses the fact that we should “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).
    • When we stand together we can overcome every attack.
    • Jesus calls us to stand up for Him and proclaim the good news of salvation to the world.
    • When we have the opportunity, let us not sit in silence, but stand up for Christ.
    • This is the challenge to stand:
      • Stand for Christ
      • Stand against evil
      • Stand alone if necessary
      • Stand together in unity
      • Stand up in the power of the Holy Spirit
      • Stand, and having done all, stand!
