Not Saying Church Growth

John 12:32 ~ “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

For some people when we say the phrase “Church Growth” they automatically look at numbers and if the NUMBERS are not getting bigger, you must be doing something wrong.

Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying, I want our church to GROW in numbers. WHY? Because that is a great indication that we are reaching lost souls for the kingdom. In this sense, I don’t want lateral growth (from one church to another) I want vertical growth (more non-churched coming to church).

So, if we are not going to seek CHURCH GROWTH, what are we going to use for the VISION and MISSION of the church to move forward, reaching more people, and more people contributing to the advancement of the kingdom of God?

We are striving to increase our capacity for effective ministry.

  1. Keep our eyes on the prize
    1. Philippians 3:14 ~ “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
    2. Prize ~ Effective Ministry; Never staying where we are in God
    3. God will not let the genuine believer rest unless his mind is on righteousness and purity, the gospel and witnessing. God pricks our hearts, reveals that we are failing and coming short. God stirs us to get our minds back upon living like we should – upon pressing for the prize and perfection in God.
  2. No excuses
    1. Luke 14:18 ~ “But they all alike began to make excuses. …”
    2. This is a parable that Jesus gave concerning those who have been called to dine at the great banquet, to do Kingdom Work.
    3. Lack of numerical numbers is never an excuse to do ministry with anything less than the full commitment of our heart, soul, mind and strength.
  3. Removes unnecessary guilt
    1. Romans 8:28 ~ “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
    2. All things ~ go well beyond the great
    3. Work together ~ create and eliminate, place and replace, connect and group, interrelate and intermingle, shape and forge, press and stretch, move and operate, control and guide, arrange and influence. Also, means action for continually working together for good.
    4. Good ~ ultimate good; not just for the here and now.
  4. Keep us focused on kingdom success, not our success
    1. John 12:32 ~ “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
    2. Looking for kingdom impact, doing ministry without an agenda.
  5. Better way to look at our church’s place in the world
    1. Acts 1:8 ~ “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
    2. We live in a BIG but SMALL world, let’s make an impact, starting right here in Cropwell/Pell City and move beyond.
