The Great Commission
Week Two: Why Go?
Matthew 28:16-20 ~ “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Why Go?
Look at the USA just this past week.
You should go because Jesus told you to:
  • This is called obedience.
  • Matthew 28:16-20 is not a suggestion, it is a command.
  • God has a plan to reach the world, the whole world, with the Gospel. This plan includes you!
2 Peter 3:9 ~ “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
God wants every person:
  • To know the joy of forgiveness.
  • To know the peace of eternal security.
  • To have a personal, living, loving, real relationship with Him.
John 15:16 ~ “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
Jesus Chose You!
  • He chose us individually and collectively as a church to bear fruit.
  • Jesus appointed you to be a disciple. As a disciple, you are to go and make more disciples.
  • Jesus has appointed you to make a difference in eternity.
John 14:15 ~ “If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Our degree of obedience is directly proportional to our love for Jesus.
Obedience Test:
  • Hebrews 10:24-25
  • Proverbs 10:21
  • Jeremiah 1:5
  • Do you murder?
  • Do you steal?
  • Do you gamble?
  • Do you GO?
Are we selective in the commands of God we obey?
Why Go?
  • You should go because of what a lost world faces.
  • Acts 26:17-18According to this passage, everyone who is lost is in darkness and, aware or not, under the power of the devil.
  • 2 Corinthians 4:3-5 ~ They are perishing, dying in their darkness. Their minds are veiled from the light of the god of this age, Satan.
  • John 3:18They are living under a death sentence. They are condemned to a live without God.
  • Revelation 20:15Not only condemned in this life, but for all eternity.
Why Go?
  • You should go because of what going will do for you.
  • It gives you the joy of knowing you are obeying the Lord.
  • It gives you the joy of seeing people come out of darkness and into the light.
  • Jesus approves of you obeying Him. (Matthew 25:21)
  • It enables you to change your community, country, and world.
