Such As I Have

Acts 3:1-9 (KJV) ~  Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
Picture this man that everyone knew:
  • A Helpless Cripple
  • Unable to Work
  • Being Ignored
  • With no one to take him in
  • Without family
  • Poor
  • Having to fend for himself
  • Never fitting in
  • Never being accepted
Note the words of Peter in verse 4 ~ “Look on us.
Authoritative and arresting.
Stirred an expectancy within the man to receive something.
The Word of Peter demonstrated that …
  • He had a sure confidence that he himself belonged to God, he was God’s representative.
  • He had a plan to help the man.
  • He had an expectancy, a genuine faith that God would help him to meet the need.
  • He had a willingness to act, to reach out by faith and meet the need.
1 Samuel 16:7 ~ “Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart
When God looks at our need, He sees the physical and the spiritual need!
Three significant facts that must be understood:
  1. Jesus’ presence and power are not found in silver and gold.
  2. Jesus’ presence and power are found in Jesus’ name.
  3. Jesus’ presence and power are still at work today!
Peter reached down to take the man by the hand and lift him up.
The man let him.
Jesus healed him.
When Peter and John walked into this man’s life, they offered him something better than silver or gold.
An opportunity to:
  • Walk
  • Work
  • Witness
  • Worship
