Are You a Watchman for God?

Ezekiel 3:17-21

Ezekiel has been made a watchman of God over Israel.

Watchman — one who looks out or sees from a height, with the view to warning of impending danger or to give any information, good or bad (Ezek. 33:2-7; 1Sam. 14:16; 2Sam. 18:24-27; 2Ki. 9:17-20; 17:9; 18:8; Song 3:3; 5:7; Ps. 127:1; Isa. 21:6-12; 52:8; 56:10; 62:6; Jer. 6:17; 31:6; 51:12; Hos. 9:8; Mic. 7:4). Priests and prophets of the Lord were often called watchmen. Ezekiel was especially distinguished with this title (Ezek. 3:17; 33:7). The duties of a watchman were threefold:
1. To wait and watch for what God would command and give in warning (Ezek. 3:17-21).
2. To watch over and superintend the people (Ezek. 3:17-21; Isa. 56:10).
3. To warn the people for God (Ezek. 3:17-21).

Ezekiel 33:1-10
True ministers are the watchmen of God. Their duty is to be responsible and faithful by encouraging people, but also by warning them of God’s coming judgment. Their faithfulness proves that they truly believe the LORD and have surrendered their lives to Him. Ministers must warn people of God’s coming judgment. And they must be vigilant in sounding the alarm so that people can be saved. If they fail to warn people to repent of their sins, people will die and be separated eternally from God. The souls of people rest in the hands of ministers, the watchmen of God. Listen to what God’s Holy Word says to His ministers:

Acts 20:28 ~ “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood

1 Thessalonians 5:14 ~ “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men”

Hebrews 13:7 ~ “Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation [behavior, conduct]”

1 Peter 5:2 ~ “Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind”

Isaiah 58:21 ~ “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins”

Isaiah 62:6 ~ “I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence”

Jeremiah 3:15 ~ “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding”

Jeremiah 6:17  ~ “Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken”

Ezekiel 3:17 ~ “Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me”

Ezekiel 3:18 ~ “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand”
