Encourage the Righteous

Psalm 34:15 ~ “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
  • Because the Lord watches over them and hears their cry of desperation.
  • Prayer is a wonderful privilege secured for us by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.
Psalm 34:16 ~ “The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
  • Because the Lord turns away from those who do evil and condemns them: He will remove them from the earth.
  • The righteous leave a legacy that long outlives them on this earth. The wicked are quickly forgotten.
Psalm 34:17 ~ “The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
  • Because the Lord hears the righteous cry out for help: He delivers them from all their troubles.
  • The right to turn to God in troublesome time is one David did not take lightly.
Psalm 34:18 ~ “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
  • Because the Lord is close to the brokenhearted: He saves those who have crushed spirits.
  • David is speaking directly to the needs of his depressed companions, assuring them that the Lord cares for their souls; that is their feelings and emotional well-being.
Psalm 34:19 ~ “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
  • Because the Lord delivers the righteous from all afflictions, each and every time.
  • The Lord does not promise a trouble-free life to those who fear Him.
